In the final moments of their match at the Al-Mahalla stadium in Abha as part of the 13th round of the Saudi Professional League, Damac’s team prevented Al-Ahli’s celebration by securing a 2-2 draw.

Al-Ahli increased their points to 26 and momentarily moved up to third place, but Damac prevented them from climbing the standings and drawing nearer to the leaders Al-Hilal. Damac, meanwhile, raised their point total to 15.

Due to an injury that forced Allan Saint-Maximin to leave the game early, Sumaihan Al-Nabit was substituted by Al-Ahli’s coach, Matthias Jaissle.

Riyad Mahrez of Algeria took the lead after scoring twice in the first half. He sent a cross from a corner kick that Abdul Basset Hindi headed into the net in the eleventh minute. Mahrez put in a terrific attack in the 44th minute, turning the ball inside the penalty area for substitute Sumaihan Al-Nabit to score Al-Ahli’s second goal.

Al-Ahli nearly increased their lead in the first half, but they won 2-0 in the end.

In the second half, the game slowed down, and Damac’s desire to equalize was evident. By translating a cross from Abdul Rahman Al-Obeid in the 74th minute, Farouk Chafai helped them close the score.

The equalizer was secured by Nicolae Stanciu of Romania in the second minute of injury time.
