Preview: Al Wehda vs Al Nassr

Round 13 of the Saudi Professional League concludes on Saturday at the King Abdul Aziz Stadium with a match between Al Wahda and Al-Nassr.

The hosts entered the weekend having just ended a five-game losing streak, while the Global One were aiming for their seventh straight victory in all competitions.

Last Monday, in their Professional League match at the Al Hazm Club Stadium, Al Wahda defeated nine-man Al Hazem 2-1 to get back on the winning track.

Bruno Viana’s first goal of the match in the 23rd minute had put the visitors behind at halftime. However, in the second half, substitute Abdulaziz Noor scored twice in 15 minutes to tie the score.

The previous five games were a losing streak for Al Wahda, with one draw and four losses, the most recent being a 2-0 loss to Al-Taawoun in the King’s Cup round of sixteen on October 31.

After 12 Professional League games, Georgios Donis’s team has now amassed 16 points, sitting eighth in the standings, seven points above the bottom three, with five wins, one tie, and six losses.

Al Wahda will aim to continue where they left off on Monday and win back-to-back league titles for the first time since September. However, they will face a formidable opponent that has won 11 of their last 17 meetings and is undefeated in 14 of them.

In contrast, Al-Nassr defeated Al Duhail, a team based in Qatar, 3-2 on Tuesday at the Khalifa International Stadium to preserve their perfect record in Group E of the AFC Champions League.

Al Wehda vs Al Nassr: H2H

Brazilian forward Anderson Talisca took matters into his own hands after trailing to Philippe Coutinho’s eighth-minute goal. He scored a hat-trick to tie the score before Coutinho cut it in half.

After a 1-0 victory over Al-Ettifaq in extra time on October 31, Al-Nassr has now won six straight games. This run of success has secured their place in the Champions League knockout stages and advanced them to the King’s Cup quarterfinals.

In addition, Luis Castro’s team has won 16 games and drawn one in their last 17 matches across all competitions. They last lost in the league back in August to Al-Ettifaq and Al-Taawon, respectively.

Al-Nassr is currently second in the Professional League standings with 28 points from 12 games, two points ahead of third-place Al-Ahli and four behind league leaders Al-Hilal.

The Global One enters the weekend riding a string of eight straight victories away from home across all competitions, and after six games, they have the second-best road point total in the division (15), only behind Al-Hilal (16).

Team News

Following a striking cameo, Noor might be rewarded with a spot in the starting lineup, which would make Dutch forward Vito van Crooij nervous about his position in the starting lineup.

Odion Ighalo appeared to have run out of goals after scoring six in his first six games after joining from Al-Hilal in the summer. He has now failed to score in his last six games.

Donis may again start with the same back four of Islam—Ahmed Hawsawi, Oscar Duarte, Abdullah Al-Hafith, and Saeed Al Muwallad—but we expect the former Nigerian international to lead Al Wahda’s attack.

The 38-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo was conspicuously absent from the Al-Nassr squad when they played Al Duhail on Tuesday, but he should be back to spearhead the team’s attack this weekend.

With another incredible performance, while he was away, Talisca made headlines. With 19 goals and 19 assists in all competitions, the forward from Brazil will be one to watch.

Regarding injuries, Al-Nassr is still without seasoned goalie David Ospina, who is still recovering from a setback sustained in January.

Our Prediction: Al Wahda 0-3 Al-Nassr

Al-Nassr produced another outstanding team performance in the middle of the week, and they will be extremely confident going into the match on Saturday. Given the difference in class and quality between the two teams and the fact that Castro’s team is currently playing at full strength, we are betting on them to win all three points once more.
